Organic Sweet Meat 'Oregon Homestead' Winter Squash
Carol Deppe, farmer and author of 'The Resilient Gardener,' spent years re-selecting this outstanding winter squash! Sweet Meat 'Oregon Homestead' (Cucurbita maxima) is the result of her attentive selecting process. Upon noticing the decline in quality of this classic pacific northwest variety, Carol began a years-long process of selection for extra thick, sweet flesh, a small seed cavity, long-storage, and vigorous, productive vines. Well, Carol, you've done good...and we intend to carry on your selection, adapting this gem to our southern California climate!
We're really excited about this one...HUGE vines, producing 3-4 giant squash (10-20lbs) that can store well into winter in cold storage. Light blue skin and vibrant yellow-orange flesh that is very dry and really sweet. Half of one of these large, beautiful fruits has filled up three hungry farmers on many a night! Excellent baked, in soups or pies. Just beautiful. Annual
*We have a very limited supply of this rare variety...when we run out of this seed, it won't be available again until the wintertime.*
